THE ACCOMMODATION: Single, double, queen and family sized rooms available, all with ensuites, microwave/toaster, heating, TV and electric blankets.

Self-contained cooking facilities available in family and queen rooms. Light continental breakfast is provided. Linen + towels provided for all guests.

THE DINING: Head chef with extensive Australian and international restaurant experience offers a menu with a uniquely local flavour and emphasis on the highest quality fish, game and freshest of ingredients.

Lunch sittings from 12-2:30pm daily. Dinner sittings 5:30-8:30pm daily.

Seated drinks, coffee and cakes available at all other times. Hotel and bottle shop are open seven days, with takeaway drinks available during hotel opening hours.

THE HOTEL DEVELOPMENT: Central Highlands Tasmania Pty Ltd has purchased The Great Lake Hotel and surrounding land. Over the next four years the property will be redeveloped into what will be known as Miena Village

The development will incorporate a new hotel (still to be called the Great Lake Hotel), relocated to a more elevated position to take advantage of stunning lake views.

An independent, fully stocked grocery store will be built on the property to compliment the new hotel + accommodation and to provide guests with everything from fresh produce and staples to fishing tackle and hiking gear.

THE GREAT LAKE: If you’re wanting to get amongst the Central Highlands’ renowned trout fishing, this is your spot!

The Great Lake is Australia’s largest freshwater lake and is renowned for its summer hatches and wind lane activity.

Hungry, speckled brown trout greedily feeding on the surface carpet of midge pupa is a sight that travelling anglers dream about and travel across the country for. It’s a perfect location for bait, lure and fly fishing enthusiasts with plenty of action to tempt beginner and more experienced fishos alike.

If you’re planning a stay of more than a few days, it’s worth broadening your horizons and visiting the area’s lesser-known waterways including Little Pine Lagoon, Penstock Lagoon and Arthurs Lake.

FISHING & BOAT HIRE: Miena Village Boat Hire is based at the Great Lake General Store and offers boat rental to visitors.

The boats are designed for calm water conditions and ideal for exploring and fishing the Great Lake. Hire boats are of fibreglass construction, with floatation tanks fitted, powered by six horsepower Suzuki outboard motors.

Each boat is suitable for up to three anglers and comes with all safety equipment including life jackets, oars, buoyancy ring and fire extinguisher.

Boat drivers must be over 18 years of age and hold a valid Australian boat license.

GENERAL STORE: On site general store provides guests with unleaded + premium unleaded petrol and Alpine Diesel, as well as a full selection of grocery items, fresh fruit and vegetables, a range of premium Tasmanian meats and dairy, ready to heat meals, hardware, household supplies and a great selection of takeaway food and drinks.

The general store also stocks Swap-n-Go gas and firewood and supply visitors with recreational fishing licenses as well as flies, lures, bait and a large range of fishing equipment.

Boat Hire via Miena Village Boat Hire is also arranged through the general store.
