DWELLINGUP, WA

Awesome offroad camping outta Perth. Pic: snows.com.au

Escape Perth’s rat race with a quick excursion to Dwellingup. As well as some first rate offroad drives, the area offers the choice of a couple of A-grade campsites as well as some great bushwalking opportunities, if that’s your cup of tea.

The (other) Murray River runs right through the middle of Dwellingup, allowing for a range of aquatic pursuits including fishing, kayaking and canoeing.

Most of the campsites are within cooee of the riverbank, so there’s no shortage of primo short-term waterfront accommodation.

The best part about a trip out to Dwellingup is that it only takes around an hour and a half from the centre of Perth, so it’s perfectly situated for a weekend dash, or even a daytrip if you’re super desperate to feel the dirt under your tyres.

STUFF TO DO

4WDING is available right by the camping area and there are plenty of good hill climbs on offer to test the ability of man and machine. Most of the tracks are best suited to lifted vehicles and experienced drivers.

BIKE TRACKS: There are a handful of awesome trails in the Dwellingup area that are perfect for exploring on two wheels. The best of ‘em are accessible from the main camping areas and track maps are available from the ranger’s office.
