GPS OPTIONS

ASK THE EXPERT – KNOW WHERE YOU’RE AT

Hey Adam,

I am looking into a GPS system and have been looking at the VMS and Hema. I am not sure whether to go down the iPad track or get the whole system. Can you advise at all?

Dylan.

Hi Dylan

I can’t speak for VMS because I haven’t used one. I have all of the Hema options though. I first bought the HN5 years ago and then went to the HN7. Now I have the HX-1 and Hema on the iPad and also on my Samsung phone.

It all depends on what you want to do with it. If you just want offroad mapping then I would suggest going the iPad way, because the screen is bigger. Remember that some area maps are always going to be better than others. I also know that other people on forums have been able to load other maps on the iPad as well, which come in handy.

If you are looking for on-road navigation as well, then the stand-alone GPS unit is the one for you. Street mapping with the HX-1 is tops (plus it has full offroad mapping). It is also loaded with campsite information and just about every other option imaginable.

Hope that helps mate.

GO NUTS!

Adam
