The Coxs River is a cool freshwater watercourse that rises in the Ben Bullen State Forest and flows over 150km through the Blue Mountains before emptying into Warragamba Dam.

It’s a classic freshwater mountain stream that’s accessible at several spots along its course and offers visitors some prime trout fishing opportunities just a couple hours out of Sydney.

Glenroy campground is located at Hartley, 20 minutes drive out of Katoomba at the junction of the Coxs River and the River Lett. The riverfront sites are flat, grassy and comfortable with fire rings provided so you can stack a blaze right by your camp and grill fresh caught trout on the coals.

STUFF TO DO

4WDING: Access the Six Foot Track via the Cullenbenbong Rd at Little Hartley. The track winds for 40 rutted and often muddy kilometres through the Kanangra Boyd National Park before depositing you at Black Range Rd near Jenolan Caves. The campground by the Coxs River makes a perfect pit stop.

FISHING: The Coxs River is considered a general trout stream, so fishing for brown and rainbow trout is closed from the June Queens Birthday long weekend until the October Labour Day long weekend to protect the trout during their vulnerable spawning season.

LOCATION: The Coxs River runs for over 150km from north of Lithgow to its confluence with the Warragamba River. Public access points are at Wallerawang, near the power station, at McKanes Falls Road Bridge, at the Glenroy camping area and within the Lidsdale State Forest.

CAMPING: The Glenroy camping area has comfortable flat, grassy sites by the river with fire rings provided. Rates of $15 per adult and $5 per child per night apply.
