ARK has just announced the world’s first 12-pin vehicle socket that automatically checks your trailer’s lights for you, and warns you if there are any issues.

The new Smart Connector automatically runs a full diagnostic on the trailer as soon as the trailer plug is connected. Within 20 seconds it will check and activate the lights on the trailer in sequence so you can double-check yourself, again, leaving out the need for two people.

Bluetooth enabled, the Smart Connector allows you to run a check at any time, and you can even do a full vehicle cable check, to help work out if any voltage issues are on the vehicle or trailer side of the plug.

“This isn’t just about ease of use,” says Gary Afarian, Product Manager for ARK. “This ensures all of the lights on towed vehicles are functioning, which is going to make our roads safer for everyone.”

The Smart Connector package includes ARK’s popular AHI7 universal towbar wiring harness functionality built in to the device, which combats issues with modern vehicle ECUs. It uses the same plugs as the AHI7, so if you already have one fitted, retrofitting the Smart Connector is plug and play.
